Imagine having to live in a room with over a hundred other women with little to no privacy. This was the reality for Dasha, a 17-year-old girl living in Chernihiv, Ukraine. Dasha, the eldest of two sisters, dreams of becoming a veterinarian. She loves animals and has always wanted a gerbil. However, due to their living situation, her mom, a widow who lost her husband six years ago, had to say no. Jokingly, she told Dasha, “If someone gives us a house, you can get a gerbil.”
Their situation took a turn when military occupation forced them to flee their hometown. Despite these hardships, Dasha’s dream remained alive. Thanks to your generosity, Dasha and her family have a new home. While moving in, Dasha looked at her mom and said, “Mom, you said if someone gave us a house, I could have a gerbil. Well…”
